Esthetic Clear Retainer Instructions
Following Treatment:
- Wear your retainers full time, until the doctor instructs otherwise.
- Retainers must be removed to eat, and always put in their cases. Most retainers are lost in school lunchrooms or
restaurants.
- Retainers are breakable, so treat them with care. Never wrap in a napkin or put in your pocket or backpack.
- Retainers may be cleaned with a toothbrush and Efferdent. Soak in mouthwash for a fresh taste.
- Avoid leaving retainers around animals where they may chew and destroy them. Remove retainers while swimming to avoid losing them.
- Initially, you may find it difficult to speak. Practice speaking and reading out loud to get used to them. You may have excess saliva at first.
- Do not boil, clean in a dishwasher, or leave by a heater or in a hot car. The retainers will become distorted.
- Always bring your retainers to your appointments.
- If you lose or break your retainers, call our office immediately. A lab fee will be charged for all lost or broken retainers.
- With proper care, your retainers will last for years!
- Remember, replacing lost or broken retainers is much easier and less expensive than re-straightening teeth that have shifted due to inadequate retainer wear.
