How Invisalign works — and what it can treat
Invisalign uses a series of custom-made clear plastic trays to gradually move your teeth. Each tray is approximately 0.25mm different from the one before it. As you progress through the series, your teeth follow the simulated treatment plan, shifting incrementally toward the final position your orthodontist designed.
You wear each set of aligners for one week, removing them to eat, drink, brush, and floss. At Reynolds Orthodontics, we monitor your progress with in-office visits every 10 weeks.
Compliance is Everything
Invisalign only works while you're wearing it. The prescription is 20 hours per day minimum. Wearing aligners less than that extends your treatment timeline — sometimes significantly. The good news: most patients adapt quickly and find it easy to hit 20–22 hours without thinking about it.
What Invisalign Can Treat
Invisalign has evolved dramatically over the past decade. It now handles cases that would have required braces a few years ago. At Reynolds Orthodontics, we take on complex Invisalign cases including:

Why bite correction matters, even with aligners
— A word of caution Some lower-cost providers offer aligner treatment that doesn't address bite correction. The moment you start wearing aligners, the plastic layer between your teeth changes your bite slightly. If your provider isn't actively managing that, you can end up with a different bite problem than you started with. Our doctors treat the bite as part of every case — not an optional add-on.
A misaligned bite causes more than aesthetic issues. It accelerates tooth wear, can trigger headaches, jaw pain, TMJ discomfort, migraines, and in some cases tinnitus (ringing in the ears). Choosing a treatment that ignores your bite is a gamble, one that often costs more to fix later.
Understanding Refinements
Refinements are mid-treatment plan adjustments, the Invisalign equivalent of brace adjustments. Because teeth sometimes track slightly differently than the initial simulation predicted, most Invisalign cases require at least one round of refinements. This is normal, expected, and part of achieving ideal results.
Lower-cost aligners often limit refinements or leave results incomplete. Since teeth rarely track perfectly, you usually pay extra to continue. Before starting Invisalign, ask: "How many refinements are included? Is there a limit?"
After Invisalign: Retention
When treatment ends, we take a 3D digital scan of your teeth, no impressions, no molds. We use that scan to create your custom retainers. Once the scan is on file, replacement retainers can be mailed directly to you. No return visit needed for re-fitting.
Retainers are not optional. Teeth have memory, they'll shift back toward their original positions if not maintained. Retention is for life. Wearing your retainer as directed is the only way to protect the result.
Financing & Insurance
We use OrthoFi to offer the most flexible payment plans in orthodontics. Most families fit Invisalign into $200–$300/month with zero interest. Extended low-interest plans are available for longer cases.
We accept most dental insurance plans with orthodontic benefits. Invisalign also qualifies for HSA and FSA pre-tax savings. The smart play: apply your insurance benefit first, then use HSA or FSA funds to cover the remainder, you save on taxes.
